Kings CrossBuilt in 1872 as a hotel at the canal side during Cardiff's hey day as a major port the Kings Cross was acquired by local brewery Hancock's and after WWII became a popular local ale-house, frequented by sailors and ladies of the night in the then notorious Mill Lane. Well before homosexuality was legalised in 1967 the Kings was known as a safe-haven for gay men, with a separate entrance to their infamous “back room”. In 1975 the new owners Welsh Brewers, later Bass, Mitchells and Butlers, accepted the pub as one of the cities first openly gay bars and it has remained so ever since. In 1998 with the regeneration of Mill Lane as Cardiff's Café Quarter the bar was overhauled, adding the continental style outside pavement drinking area and a major reorientation of the inside.
Today, the Kings Cross is proud of its heritage as Wales' longest serving gay bar and offers a safe and friendly welcome to all walks of life with quality food and drinks, and outrageous entertainment as Cardiff's premier cabaret venue.

At Kings Cross, the customer always comes first.
